Support Andrew Martin in his Walk for Challenge

We would like to introduce you to one of our extraordinary patients: Andrew Martin.

The Team at Rise have been working alongside Andrew over the past few months and we are all so extremely proud to be able to support Andrew in his Walk for Challenge.

Our resident Podiatrist Paul worked with Andrew after he presented with an acute case of plantar fasciitis which was exacerbated by his increase in training load in a limited time frame.  Strapping and orthotic care, in a short period of time with a short period of rest and rehab, had Andrew back on track and on his way back to training.  Paul liaised with Damien from Active Feet Camberwell, who was able to assess his footwear choice and provide further support to Andrew.

Grace our Exercise Physiologist provided Strength & Conditioning along with pilates, which was well complimented by Lachie Toll our Physiotherapist who was also able to provide support for performance through injury prevention, maintenance and recovery interventions.

This September, Andrew will be completing his Walk for Challenge, where he will walk 900 kilometres over 14 days. This journey begins at the Challenge Family Centre in West Melbourne and will finish in Sydney.

Andrew’s motivation to embark on such an arduous odyssey is simple: to make a difference. This walk from Melbourne to Sydney is to raise vital funds and awareness for Challenge: a not-for-profit organisation that supports children and families living with cancer.

Andrew has a long-standing relationship with Challenge that has spanned over 24 years, where he has helped cater for events, volunteered in the office and worked as a sponsor. Due to the time that Andrew has worked alongside Challenge, he can only attest for the incredible work they do for families. Challenge helps to address the social, emotional, and practical needs of families living with cancer, and do so in a way that supports the needs of each member of the family – patient, siblings, parents.

Andrew endured the passing of both of his parents from cancer, so he knows firsthand the struggle of watching a loved one sledge through a health battle. Furthermore, little support while witnessing this battle makes the experience even more distressing.

Challenge aims to bridge this gap by providing the support families need to remain united, engaged, and distracted from the trying moments of a cancer journey.

Andrew’s walk will be a challenge to both the body and mind, but he is excited to work for such a worthwhile cause, especially in September which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Rise is pleased that we are able to support Andrew, and help him to work towards this remarkable effort.
